From Rubbermade Bins to Financial Freedom
The inspiration for J&J Bookkeeping started over 30 years ago when a close friend approached me with a daunting sight: several large Rubbermaid containers overflowing with years of unorganized paperwork. Inside were receipts, mounting invoices, and—most shockingly—large checks that had sat so long they were no longer cashable. He was a talented business owner, but he was drowning in the “not-so-fun” side of his passion.
When I asked him, “Are you profitable?” he paused. He paid his bills on time, but he didn’t truly know where his business stood. The anxiety was costing him both money and sanity.
What he feared would take forever, we tackled together. I translated his mess into “layman’s terms,” showing him exactly where he stood and how much we could save him. Once the backlog was cleared, the monthly maintenance became a breeze. That was my “lightbulb moment.” I realized that small business owners don’t just need a calculator; they need a trusted, approachable partner to help them reclaim their role as the visionary of their company. If you’re expecting a dry, monotone accountant in a stiff suit, we might not have met yet. I’m Lori, and while my personality is rooted in the ‘real world’ of small business, my background is built on high-level expertise. I earned my Master’s in Accounting from Franklin University right here in Columbus, and I’ve spent years blending that rigorous academic foundation with the fast-paced demands of corporate and small business finance

I founded J&J Bookkeeping because I saw too many brilliant entrepreneurs losing the fight against their own “to-do” lists. You started your business to create, build, and sell—not to spend your Sunday nights reconciling bank statements. My passion is helping you master the “not-so-fun” side of the house so you can get back to the parts of your business that actually make you smile.
From the West Coast Back to My Roots
I’m an Ohioan through and through. Although my journey took me to California for 20 years, my heart (and my family) never really left the Buckeye State. As soon as the opportunity arose to come home, I took it.
I’ve spent the last two decades raising my two kids here and currently live in the Columbus area with my husband. Being back in the suburbs of Cleveland and now central Ohio has reminded me why I love the Midwest: the work ethic is unmatched, and the “neighbor helping neighbor” spirit is exactly how I run my business.
